Institute of Photonics

Aiming for certain objectives based on the establishment of the center, the Photonics Institute has started its activity with a basic agreement and in 2004, received its final license from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

This research institute has three departments (Semiconductors, Lasers and Fiber Optics), comprises 4 active laboratories and currently has 5 faculty members and 2 experts. The main goal of this research institute is to train experts and to do research for extending the frontiers of photonics science and applied researches in related technologies.

Institute General Objectives:

  • To provide scientific grounds to be able to do research activities in the broad definition of photonics - ranging from basic physical works on lasers to quantum computations and photonics structures.
  • To do research cooperation with educational and research institutes and local and foreign researchers on activities of the institute
  • To help with the expansion of employing the technologies of photonics domain in the country, to develop active links with universities, industries and related institutions
  • To produce knowledge and technology in line with economic sustainable development for competition at the national and international scenes
  • To conduct strategic researches on new knowledge and technologies which leads to the design and construction of new tools, optimization and or applicability of them including:

  • Developing computational software in plasma simulation in a reactor convertor of hydrocarbon gases, plasma interactive system with the seed and activating the water with the help of plasma
  • To do research and technological projects up to the stages of a conceptual design and a finally precise design in the field of a seed breeding and reactors of converting hydrocarbon gases
  • To do industrial projects in the field of a seed breeding and activating of water with the help of plasma
  • To develop plasma systems with the ability to be applied in food industries and agriculture
  • To do an analysis of different instabilities in the process of production of terahertz radiations, a microwave and etc. from laser interaction with plasma
  • To design a high voltage electrical power for the production of plasma to activate water
  • To design and optimize lasers in particular semi-conductor lasers
  • To design and construct Optoelectronic devices in Nano dimensions
  • Construction and optimization of nanostructured solar cells (Perovskite Solar cell)
  • To use the computations of density functional theory
  • To do research on features of Nano structure in line with design and optimizing filters, sensors, drug delivery and detectors
  • To construct and to find the specification of sensors in particular the optical and fluid optics sensors
  • To use the optical lithography method to design sensor and micron spares
  • To use the methods of optical Spectrophotometry
  • Having laser direct-write to design micron spares
  • To do theoretical and experimental research for optical devices including intensifiers, waveguides, sensors, and optical fibers
  • To design, simulate, and construct remote sensing systems with the ability to take radar and laser imaging in the short and medium range
