Institute of Environmental Sciences was established in 2001 and started its research and educational activities with four specialized research departments including Ecology, Biotechnology, Biodiversity, and Environment.


  • Reforming and improving important economical characteristics of plants and animals by sophisticated molecular techniques (agricultural biotechnology)
  • Studying and applying advanced molecular techniques in human genetics, diagnosing and treating illnesses using methods such as cell and gene therapy (human biotechnology)
  • Designing and producing novel diagnostic kits and procedures
  • Studying mechanisms of resistance to environmental stresses in plants
  • Utilizing different techniques of GIS and RS in environmental studies and modeling of the processes
  • Comprehensive  study of ecosystems
  • Studying and monitoring the environment to offer managerial suggestions based on sustainable development of environment
  • Study of animal and plant biodiversity at regional and national level
