The close and fundamental links between plasma engineering and such strategic industries as military science and aerospace has provided this major with a unique status as an independent academic field in research centers and universities all over the world. Electric discharge and plasma has brought about a huge improvement in technology and is increasingly progressing. Researchers have paid special attention to application of plasma engineering in various fields including: plasma processes, electric discharge in gases, processing different materials and surfaces, producing nano-sized materials, making active environments in gas (e.g. gas lasers),developing new energies, providing microwave telecommunications, removing environmental pollutions, propulsion, and space researches, etc. Plasma engineering also plays a pivotal role in such systems as nuclear fusion reactors, production of nanometric particles, rich sources of electromagnetism, and electronic warfare.
