Employing new methods of agriculture in plant breeding, genetic engineering, and biotechnology is both economically and nutritionally important since more high-quality products can be made using more cost-effective and faster approaches in comparison with traditional agriculture. Biotechnology and plant breeding can be utilized for producing plants resistant against such adverse conditions as drought, solute, insects, and pathogens and can thus contribute to the national economy by their added value and storage life. To achieve this objective, a major at M.Sc. level in agriculture engineering with two minors in plant breeding and biotechnology is established at the GUAT, providing students with knowledgeable academic staff and modern facilities at laboratories of cellular and molecular biology.
