Department of Nuclear Engineering

Major (Course): Nuclear Engineering

Program: M.Sc.

Brief Description:

The Nuclear Engineering department was established in 2010. This group is currently accepting students for M. Sc. degrees in three sub-courses: radiation applications, reactor engineering and medical radiation engineering.

Nuclear engineering is an interdisciplinary engineering course including the scientific concepts of physics, mechanics and medicine applicable at many fields. The main fields consist of

i)  Simulation, control and utilization of nuclear energy

ii)  Production and utilization of radiation and radioactive materials, industry application of radiation and radiation detecting systems

iii)  Radiation treatment, radiation diagnostic, charge particle accelerators and radiation shielding.

Nuclear engineering is based on fundamental principles of physics, fluid mechanics, medicine and mathematics courses that describe nuclear interactions and the transport of ionizing radiation with targets.  These targets can be a tumor for treating by irradiating at medicine, an industry product for quality testing or reactor core for energy releasing and then electricity generation. Due to these and at a glance, nuclear engineering is inherently a multifaceted discipline, relying on several branches of physics that is highly applicable at human life.
